Going on a cruise doesn’t always have to mean cramped quarters and long restaurant queues. With Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL,) gather your favourite crew — be it friends or family — and check yourself into a series of suites known as the Haven by Norwegian. These exclusive cruise ship quarters can be found on several of NCL’s cruise liners, not only offering extra room but a slew of luxury services that will bring your cruise experience up several notches.

The Haven, Norwegian Cruise Line: What to Expect

Instead of pothole-cover sized windows, accommodation at the Haven welcomes the open sea air and lots of sunshine into the rooms — via floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open out onto your own private balcony. A luxury bath and Bvlgari toiletries await in the marble tiled bathrooms, as do robes, bedroom slippers and oversized towels.

Dining options are the same as everyone else on the ship, of course, but white tablecloth dining can be arranged by a butler if you’d prefer a more intimate, in-suite meal. As a Haven resident, you’ll also gain privileged access to exclusive brunches and invitations to cocktail parties with the ship’s officers. Also, don’t be surprised to see delectable treats delivered to your room in the evenings — it’s all part of the luxurious pampering at the Haven.

Rooms and Private Courtyard

Depending on which ship you’re on, these are the main types of accommodation you’ll find at the top of the ship, complete with a pool and courtyard for exclusive use by Haven guests:

  • The Haven 3-bedroom Garden Villa, featuring a private garden, a piano in the living room and a dining area. Sleeps 8.
  • The Haven Deluxe Owner’s Suite with large balcony, featuring a living and dining area. Sleeps 6.
  • The Haven Owner’s Suite with large balcony, sleeps 4.
  • The Haven Courtyard Penthouse with balcony, sleeps 2-3.
  • The Haven 2-bedroom Family Villa with balcony, sleeps 6.
  • The Haven Spa Suite with balcony, featuring an in-suite tub and priority access to Mandara Spa’s Thermal Suite. Sleeps 2.

Refurbished, under The Norwegian Edge Program

Exclusive luxury quarters on cruise ships aren’t a new concept, with quite a few luxury cruise ships featuring incredibly lavish fittings for your at-sea creature comforts.

But Norwegian Cruise Line’s stand out, due to recent updates to its fleet of cruise liners under a $400 million refurbishment program called The Norwegian Edge. Upgrades under the program focuses on providing a consistent level of quality on every one of their ships, ranging from F&B and entertainment choices to accommodation comforts. With many of the ships having just completed their updates this year, it’s a no-brainer to check out what’s new on the NCL ships.

Plus, if you’re checking in to a roughly 6,500 sq. ft, three-bedroom garden villa, you’ll be staying in what could possibly be the largest accommodation at sea, on any cruise ship. It even comes with a private garden, complete with a hot tub for six. That’s enough info to get us started on planning our next getaway.
